ClickUp voice to text, explained — Talk to Text, Voice Clips, and how FluidVox compares

ClickUp already has voice-to-text: Voice Clips transcribe recorded audio, and Talk to Text (part of Brain MAX) does real-time AI dictation. Both are genuinely useful — and both sit behind ClickUp's paid AI add-on, on top of your workspace plan. This page covers exactly what ClickUp's own tools do, what they cost, and how FluidVox dictates directly into ClickUp tasks, Docs, and comments for a flat $2.99/month — on Mac, Windows, and iPhone.

TL;DR

Choose FluidVox if you want…

  • A flat $2.99/month or $39 one-time price, no per-seat AI add-on
  • Dictation that works in every app, not just ClickUp
  • Automatic Professional-style formatting for tasks and comments
  • Free on-device file transcription on every plan
  • Mac, Windows, and iPhone support

TL;DR

Choose ClickUp's own tools if you want…

  • Voice Clips you can record and share directly in a comment thread
  • Deep ClickUp-native auto-linking of tasks, Docs, and teammates
  • An AI Notetaker that joins meetings and transcribes them
  • Everything bundled into one ClickUp bill if you're already on Everything AI

ClickUp's own voice features

Does ClickUp have voice to text? Yes — here's exactly what it does

Voice Clips — record, then transcribe

Voice Clips are short audio recordings you can attach to task comments, Docs, and other places your team collaborates. If the AI ClickApp is turned on in your workspace, ClickUp automatically transcribes them — hover a sent clip and click the transcript icon to read it instead of replaying the audio. This is asynchronous: you record first, then get text a moment later, which is well suited to leaving a detailed comment or capturing a quick thought without composing it live.

Voice Clips work on the web app, desktop apps, and mobile — but the AI transcription piece needs the AI add-on active, which is a paid extra on top of your ClickUp plan.

Talk to Text — real-time dictation via Brain MAX

Talk to Text is different: it's live dictation, not after-the-fact transcription. As of July 2026 it runs inside ClickUp's separate Brain MAX app and actually works system-wide — hold a hotkey and dictate into any app on Mac, Windows, iOS, Android, or the browser (via a Chrome extension), not only ClickUp. It auto-links task and teammate mentions when used inside ClickUp, and supports 50+ languages for output.

That makes Talk to Text a real, ClickUp-branded competitor to apps like FluidVox — the main differences are pricing model (bundled into ClickUp's AI add-on rather than a flat fee) and that it's tied to having a ClickUp seat at all.

The honest limit with both: they're gated behind ClickUp's AI add-on, which is billed separately from your base workspace plan — roughly $9/user/month for core Brain AI, or around $28/user/month for the "Everything AI" tier that includes unlimited Talk to Text plus the AI Notetaker (as of July 2026 — verify current figures on ClickUp's pricing page, as these terms shift). If you're already paying for that add-on across your team, ClickUp's own tools are a reasonable choice. If you just want dictation without adding a line item to every teammate's seat, that's where FluidVox comes in.

How FluidVox dictates into ClickUp

1

Click into ClickUp

Any task description, comment, Doc, or custom field — desktop app or browser

2

Hold your hotkey and speak

Fn on macOS, Ctrl+Shift+Space on Windows — describe the task or update naturally

3

Release

Structured, professional-style text appears at your cursor — no ClickUp AI add-on required

Smart Formatting

Organized task descriptions, automatically

FluidVox applies Professional style to ClickUp by default via per-app style matching — turning a rambling voice note into a clear, structured description or comment, without you touching a formatting toolbar.

ClickUp
Update the onboarding email sequence to include a welcome video in step 2. The video should be personalized with the user's first name and company. Deadline is end of this sprint. Assign to the content team for copy and the engineering team for implementation.

Speed

Create tasks faster than typing

Most people speak noticeably faster than they type. FluidVox captures your words as you talk and cleans them up the moment you release the hotkey — no separate "transcribe" step like Voice Clips requires.
